Part 1: St. Louis, Columbia & Jefferson City

The first October edition carries the DealMaker across the St. Louis, Columbia and Jefferson City areas under the banner “Same rivers. Stronger communities.” It runs 21 pages and is built as a local community source, bringing together history, river towns, local people, great food, outdoors and family fun.

Part 1 opens with a table of contents covering Callaway, Boone and Miller counties and describing the issue as a guide to Central Missouri. From there it moves through town history and community features, a seasonal recipes and puzzles section, and a run of community pages.

Missouri’s open road: the roadside heritage the October editions travel through.

The issue’s community coverage moves through several recognizable Missouri themes. A Boonville feature looks at the Missouri River town’s history, while a Jefferson City feature describes the capital city’s riverfront and history. Fulton receives a look back at its history and the Brick District, and Columbia appears as a centre of education and commerce. A Tuscumbia feature turns to the Miller County river town, adding another perspective on the communities shaped by Missouri’s waterways.

Part 1 also follows the Rock Island Line and the railroad that changed Missouri. An Arrow Rock feature presents the historic village as a Missouri treasure. Other pages include a Central Missouri entertainment feature, a look at the Missouri River and the towns it built, and an “All Aboard Missouri by Rail” feature.

The history continues with “The Story of the DealMaker Part Two,” focused on building, learning and moving forward. For families, the edition includes a Halloween word search, crossword and colouring page, along with a fall recipes and fun section. Together, these pages give Part 1 a balance of regional history, travel inspiration, community information and seasonal activities.

The edition’s cover also frames its purpose clearly: “Your Local Community Source,” “Explore Central Missouri,” and “Local Offers • Community News • Entertainment • Coupons • Events • More!” The result is a compact guide for readers moving between St. Louis, Columbia, Jefferson City and the surrounding counties.

Part 2: Mid-Missouri History, Business & Community Stories

The second October edition turns to Mid-Missouri history, business and community stories. It also runs 21 pages and continues the DealMaker’s run through the region, with route guides, town history and local business features.

Part 2 opens with the Osage Indians, a feature on the people whose homeland this was and whose place names remain across the state. It continues with Route 66 Missouri’s Open Road, a route guide presenting 21 verified stops from St. Louis to Joplin, and with Jefferson Landing, covering where the capital met the Missouri River.

Where the capital met the river: the Missouri River history running through both editions.

The Part 2 contents continue with the American Business Network and its promise, as well as a twenty-acre Spring Garden listing for land near Jefferson City. The Rock Island Line returns as a Mid-Missouri subject, while “Thanksgiving Favorites” provides seasonal recipes. Readers will also find “12 Parks and Outdoor Places” across Boone, Callaway and Cole counties.

The edition moves through Boonville town history, describing the river town that grew with Missouri, and includes “Traveling Missouri with Lewis and Clark.” Business features include Phoenix Chiropractic Center, Tim Jenkins Shelter Insurance and a Dependable Brokers commercial insurance page. Readers should confirm current hours and details locally before travelling to any featured outdoor place or community destination.

Twelve parks and outdoor places across Boone, Callaway and Cole counties.

Part 2 also travels along Route 66, presenting “The Mother Road from St. Louis to Springfield.” Route 66 remains Missouri’s open road and an enduring draw for road-trippers. The DealMaker Fun Zone adds a crossword and word search, giving the edition a family-friendly break between its history and business pages.

Crown Candy Kitchen: A St. Louis Tradition Since 1913

One of Part 2’s feature pages covers Crown Candy Kitchen, a St. Louis tradition since 1913. The business was founded by Harry Karandzieff and his friend Pete Jugaloff. Harry’s son George took over in the early 1950s, and today the third and fourth generations carry the business on.

Crown Candy Kitchen still makes its own chocolate and blends its own ice cream in the store using old-fashioned methods. Since 1913, it has maintained a standing policy that anyone who drinks five malts within 30 minutes gets them free. The family-owned business is located on St. Louis Avenue in the Old North St. Louis neighbourhood.

Historic Downtown St. Louis and St. Louis 1904

Part 2 features Historic Downtown St. Louis with a walking map of the city centre. It also includes “St. Louis 1904, when the world came to Missouri,” covering the year of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition and the city’s moment on the world stage. These pages place the city’s history within the wider story of Missouri communities, travel and public life.

Parks, Outdoors and River Country

Both editions carry outdoor recreation, river country and family fun content. Part 2’s 12 Parks and Outdoor Places feature spans Boone, Callaway and Cole counties, while the river-focused pages connect Missouri’s towns, transportation routes and history. Visitors should confirm current hours and details locally before travelling.

Featured Businesses in These Editions

Both editions carry business advertising pages featuring local and regional advertisers across insurance, hardware and HVAC, mattresses, mobile homes, chiropractic care and the DealMaker’s own vehicle listings. These pages sit alongside history, travel and community features, giving readers a way to discover the range of services and opportunities represented across the region.

How to Read Both Editions

Both October editions are free to read online through the two readers above. Start with Part 1 for St. Louis, Columbia, Jefferson City and Central Missouri community coverage, then continue with Part 2 for Mid-Missouri history, business and community stories. Readers can move between Part 1 and Part 2 at any time.
