Buyer Beware: My Experience With Emergent
A Warning From My Own Experience
I own and operate business websites, and I want to share my personal experience using Emergent so other business owners know what questions to ask before committing to an AI website builder.
In my experience, routine website changes have continued to consume paid credits. On one recent task, I spent about $20 in credits while trying to add a directory listing. The AI worked for roughly 10 minutes, and then I was told I was out of credits again.
The Backend Has Been My Biggest Frustration
Support suggested having the AI build an admin panel so I could make future changes myself. In my experience, that has not produced a backend that I consider reliable enough for ordinary self-service updates.
That leaves me dependent on the AI for changes I expected to be able to manage myself, which means more time, more corrections, and potentially more paid credits.
My View on AI Replacing Web Developers
There has been a lot of talk about AI replacing professional web developers. Based on what I have personally experienced, I do not think developers have much to worry about yet. These tools can still require constant direction, correction, troubleshooting, and hand-holding to complete basic website tasks.
Questions I Think Every Buyer Should Ask
Can I add and edit listings myself without buying more AI credits?
Will I receive a true self-service administrative backend?
What routine changes require paid credits?
What does maintenance cost after the original build is finished?
Can I manage the site independently if I stop using the AI service?
Buyer Beware
This is my personal experience and opinion. Other users may have different experiences. My advice is simple: before choosing any AI website builder, make sure you understand the ongoing costs, the limits of the backend, and how much control you will actually have over your own website after the build is complete.
